Kids for Kids concert.

On Friday my school went to the life convention centre to do the Rehearsal  practise for Friday night.
We sang all of the songs and we were singing with Jackie Clark and Nathan King. There was kids that auditioned for a soloist part. We had to practise for half an hour. My favourite song was maybe tomorrow and sensitive to a smile. Then after that we eat our morning tea we started to singing  songs again. There was 250 kids there and 15 schools that were singing with Jackie and Nathan.
When we finished we went back to school and eat our lunch and our teacher gave us an ice block each and then we had P.E for a little while and then we went home.

Filming Reflection

Today I am going to talk about my classrooms film for the film festival, our film is about success. It was fun filming the film because each one of us got to do a part of the film. Some of us were not in the film because we were the Director or Camera Operator and some of us were away. We all watched it and discussed how to make it better. We decided that we will put words in the film so that the people that are watching will know what we are doing. We want our film to be fun and enjoyable to watch.

Saint Pius X Feast day.

For Religious education we have learnt about Saint Pius X. His name was Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto and he changed his name to Pope Pius X when he became a Pope.
The holy faith sisters started our school and called it St Pius X Catholic School because St Pius wanted to help the poor people and wanted children to be able to have Holy Communion.

The Assumption.

The Assumption is on the fifteenth of August, we are going to celebrate Mary’s heavenly birthday on Thursday the 15th August. No one could find Mary’s body or bones when she died and so nobody knew where she was when she died. People think she must of died in Jerusalem, but some say she went to sleep and then she got taken up to heaven. Pope Pius said to all of the people “yes Mary’s body is in heaven”. Pope Pius said that because no one could find her body and bones.

Catholic Schools Day.

Yesterday morning was Catholic School’s Day and Saint Joseph’s school came over to our school  and they came with us to mass. Their priest came to our school to celebrate the day with us, the priest of St Joseph’s is father Terry.

After mass we had a shared lunch with the Saint Joseph’s children and then we told some kids our age to come and play with us, so we played bull rash. When we were about to start we said to the Saint Joseph’s kids will run and the Saint Pius kids will try to catch them. The staff of Saint Joseph’s and St Pius had a shared lunch in the library.

After big lunch we all lined up and we went to the hall for the concert. Room 7 sang a song and after them was St Joseph’s and our class went up and did our cup song. After that our concert was finished St Joseph’s walked out the hall and went back to their school. What an awesome day.

Maths Reflection.

This year I learnt in maths about doubling numbers and some timetables. I go on Xtra maths  because it helps me. Xtra maths helps me learn faster and be a better learner with my basic facts. When I go on Xtra maths I have to answer the questions faster and quick.

I like maths because it is cool and fun. It is fun because I learn something everyday about maths. I want to learn heaps about maths so I can be smart at maths when I go to college and when someone asks me a question about maths I will tell them the answer.

In Addition and Subtraction I am at Stage 4.

My Pencil.

Pencils are made of wood and people put lead in pencils so you can write and draw. Some pencils are circle shaped and some are hexagon shaped. Pencils can be very useful, some pencils are sharp and pointy, other pencils a blunt like a flat tyre.

Pencils are pointy like a needle and pencils can be hard like rocks. Pencils write like felts and pens and sometimes blunt pencils look like a big mess.

A pencil feels smooth and hard and a pencil is easy to hold when you a writing about something.I like pencils because they a easy to write with.

My Mother.

My mother loves me and she helps me with my homework and everything I struggle with. She cleans our house and other kinds of jobs that need to be done. My mother is beautiful and kind and I love her just as she loves me.

My mother has black eyes, fair skin and short black hair. I love my mother very much and I don’t care what people say about her, I love my mum because she is cool and I like talking to her and she is my best friend .

My mother means everything to me and I love her with all my heart. I thank her for supporting me and helping me. The thing that I love most about her is her smile and her laugh.

Similes and Metaphors

Similes and Metaphors
A simile is where two things are directly compared because they share a common feature. The word AS or LIKE is used to compare the two words. Eg. As cold AS a dog's nose
A metaphor also compares two things, but it does so more directly WITHOUT using as or like. Eg. The shop was a little gold-mine.
Task One
At the end of the sentence, write in brackets whether the sentence is an example of a metaphor or simile.
Eg. The clouds were fluffy like cotton wool. (SIMILE)

  1. As slippery as an eel. (SIMILE) ✔
  2. Arnie was a man-mountain. (METAPHOR) ✔
  3. He was a lion in battle.(METAPHOR) ✔
  4. She is as pretty as a picture.(SIMILE) ✔
  5. The striker was a goal machine.(METAPHOR) ✔
  6. The torch lit up the room as if the sun had risen early.(SIMILE) ✔
  7. The moon was a misty shadow.(METAPHOR) ✔
  8. My friend has a face like a bag of spanners.(SIMILE) ✔

Task Two
Now you are going to make up similes of your own by copying and finishing these sentences.
For example:
As good as gold

  1. As heavy as a rock. ✔
  2. As cold as ice ✔
  3. As hard as a rock ✔
  4. She had skin like a person ✔
  5. As cool as a Rugby Player ✔
  6. As quick as cheetah ✔
  7. He was slow like a fat man ✔
  8. Slippery like a wet surface ✔

This story is about Stanley when he went to Camp Green Lake. Some of the people are X Ray, Caveman, Armpit, Mr Pendanski, Warden, Zero, Squid and Mr Sir.

The holes the boys had to dig were 2 meters deep and 2 meters wide, the water dried up the lake bed. All of them had to dig the big holes.

I like this story because it is about friends.

Hooker's Sea Lions.

The name of a baby sea lion’s is pups. Sea lion’s live at the beach some live at the zoo. They change colours as they grow up from brown and blackish brown. The mothers teach them how to swim and find food.
The sea lions can get killed by whales and sharks when they are born in December  they have to be careful and get to a beach for safety. Once they were hunted for oil, but killing sea lions is now against the law because the government said so.

Some sea lions weight 400kg. Each December those who survive the sharks that are around will return to the Auckland Islands to mate and have their pups and to shelter underneath the Rata trees.

My Holiday

On are sunny day me and my family went to a family Reunion at the beach to meet up with our families. My aunty said that we had to come in colourful clothes. My dad’s dad side had to wear red and my dad’s dad’s brother’s side had to wear blue.

That day was are fun because we had sport. The sport that we did was rugby, soccer and racing. We had a big feast that day because Waitangi day was the day that my dad’s dad’s brother had passed away.

We went to the beach with our families and swam. When I swam I caught a small fish, it was a red fish and I took it and I put it on a bowl with sea water. After that we changed and we went home to sleep so we would be ready for school and work.
